Myers Carpet was the first and remains the oldest carpet outlet in Dalton, Georgia, "The Carpet Capital of the World."
|
The company was founded in 1957 by Gene Myers, who started buying scraps of carpet from local mills and reworking them into stair treads and small rugs he then sold through area chenille stores. Myers, with the help of his wife Evelyn, and later sons Rick and Ray, soon opened Dalton’s first carpet store and began offering carpet from local mills, starting with Patcraft. Art Black, founder of Evans & Black, gave Myers his carpet line. In those days, Dalton outlet stores operated much more as wholesalers than as traditional retailers. Dalton outlets had protected mills that no one else in Dalton could buy from directly. The outlet would sell those products to other Dalton outlets, carpet retailers outside of Dalton who didn’t have access to the mills, and to the general public. In 1987, Myers Carpet opened a 3000 sq.ft. showroom on Peachtree Street in Atlanta. Six years later, Myers purchased and moved into a 35,000 sq.ft. warehouse and showroom at 1500 Northside Drive. That location quickly became the flagship retail store for Myers. Then in 1998 , Myers Flooring was opened in Nashville at 641 Division Street. Today, Myers Carpet consists of Myers Carpet Dalton, Myers Carpet Atlanta, and Myers Flooring Nashville. We have over 60 full-time dedicated employees and employ several teams of top quality installers.
We continue to sell products from Shaw, Queen, Armstrong, Mohawk, Bruce, Milliken, Mannington, Aladdin, Beaulieu, Dixie, Coronet, Karastan, Tuftex, Godfrey Hirst, Masland, Bloomsburg, DMI, Fibreworks, Nourison, Stanton, Woolshire, Kane, Prestige, Unique, Couristan, Gulistan and many others.
Myers has expanded over the years into selling high-end carpet and area rugs, many constructed of environmetally-friendly wool and natural fibers. Myers Carpet has become the largest wool carpeting retailer in the South and one of the major natural fiber retailers in the country. One of our specialties is that all three locations have custom workrooms where we cut, serge, bind, and create customized area rugs and room-sized rugs. Custom sizes are the biggest sellers in this upscale market. "The workroom has been a successful addition to our business for several years because high-end customers demand such service," says Ray Myers. "Many of our customers are in million-dollar Buckhead homes and need quality craftsmanship. We are so close and can turn things quickly for them." In recent years, Myers Carpet has also expanded into hardsurface, stocking several styles and sampling most major hardwood, laminate, and tile manufacturers.
In-house installation has also been established as another service to our customers. Our business ranges from a
2 ft. x 3 ft. area rug to huge commercial floorcovering projects and everything in between.
We have come a long way from 1957 when Gene Myers’ father, Raymond Myers, let him use his smokehouse on Dug Gap Road, a dirt road at the time, to start Myers Carpet .
Ray, Rick, and Evelyn Myers offer our gratitude to all our faithful customers and employees and we look forward to the
future growth of Myers Carpet Company and our continued commitment to our many satisfied customers.
